Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi has been roasting, grinding, and packaging coffee on the same street in Istanbul's Eminönü district since 1871. They are the oldest and most iconic Turkish coffee brand in the world — a household name across Turkey, virtually unknown everywhere else.
The product was exceptional. The tradition was extraordinary. But the brand was seeking to maintain relevance in an ever-changing cultural landscape nationally, and to reach larger audiences outside their home market.
the challenge
150 years of history is an extraordinary asset. It's also easy to take for granted. KMEM needed to translate a story that Turks already knew intuitively — the significance of Turkish coffee, the Ottoman legacy, the rituals, the culture — into content that could move someone in Berlin, Vienna, or Barcelona who was encountering the brand for the first time.
our approach
We started with story, as always.
Understanding not just the brand, but 500 years of Turkish coffee history, the Ottoman empire, the role and respect of Atatürk nationwide, and the ceremony behind every cup. From there we built a content strategy and began producing.
